Get to know Sara
Sara Kiewiet grew up in Casper, Wyoming. She is the product of public schools, was a dancer, gymnast, and cheerleader, and the daughter of a mechanic who taught her to work for what she wanted.
She earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Wyoming, where she served in student government and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was selected as the College of Business’s commencement speaker. She went on to earn her law degree from The Ohio State University, along with a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution: training in finding common ground that she's used ever since.
Sara began her career in commercial litigation at a large law firm, then spent the last fifteen years in legal technology, helping legal teams work smarter. She knows what it takes to sit across the table from people who disagree and help them reach an agreement.
Today, she and her husband, Justin, are raising their daughter, Marielle, a Blue Valley student and a flag football player, competitive cheerleader, and musician. They also cheer on their son, Mason, who plays college football. They share their home with two dogs and a cat that thinks it's a dog.
When it came time to choose where to raise their family, Sara and Justin chose Johnson County, specifically for the Blue Valley schools. Sara has served as PTO secretary at her daughter's middle school for three years and has watched district budgets tighten and programs disappear. She's running for the Kansas House because Kansas families shouldn't have to wonder whether the schools they moved here for will still be exceptional when their kids graduate.
